If have an Internet connection, and I think you do if you’re reading this, you might be interested in knowing that you can file requests to have the utility folks come out and mark the utility connections to your house before you dig online at

www.CallBeforeYouDig.Org

So if you’re thinking of digging in your yard . . . say, to install deep posts for a sturdy chicken coop or to double dig your garden beds, remember, you have to have the utility locate folks come out first.  You can do it online, which saves you the torture of waiting and listening to the radio jocks that you get when you call 811 (the other way to contact the utility marking folks).

If you do the online deal, they’ll send you this email, which contains a link to go to the actual request for you to complete:

In order to complete the request you will need the following information:

1.  The type of work you will be doing.

2.  The county in which all the work will take place.

3.  The city the work will take place within or the closest city to
the work site within the same county.

4.  The physical address of the site.

5.  The nearest cross street. Be prepared to specify which compass
direction (N, S, E or W) from cross st and how far your address is
from the intersection.

*   It is recommended that you use white paint to outline the area where you will be digging.

* After you have submitted your locate request you will receive an email of either a completed locate request or a voided locate request.  In the event your locate request is voided the email you receive will contain specific instruction on how to proceed.
