The following letter was received by the neighborhood chair:

Dear Alan, thank you and the members of Northeast Neighbors for the
sacrifices made while Englewood Elementary School and North Salem High
School were closed for the summer because of renovations, repairs, and
safety upgrades occurring at the schools.

Englewood Elementary opens this fall with new plumbing supply lines,
and replaced ceiling tiles and floor coverings. North Salem High School
opens this fall with new theater lighting control panels, windows, floor
coverings, ceiling tiles, wiring, an emergency generator, and water
pipes. In addition, the building exterior has been sealed, and the
damaged parking lot has been resurfaced.

All this repair work is thanks to the support of our local voters who
approved a $242.1 million construction bond measure in November 2008 to
help repair and renovate more than half the schools in Salem-Keizer, as
well as build four new schools in key areas in our community.

If community members would like more information about the construction
that occurred during the summer or want to track progress as our
district implements the construction bond, they can view the
district’s construction website at:
http://www.salkeiz.k12.or.us/content/bond-updates.

We appreciated everyone’s patience and support as we dealt with the
inconveniences that an unprecedented amount of construction brought to
our communities. But please join us in welcoming the improvements to
Englewood Elementary School and North Salem High School this fall, and
in thanking the public for their generosity and continued support
investing in our children’s education and future.

Sincerely,
